East Point Shopping understands that land is one of our most important assets and that it must be respected and protected. The East Point site was designed and constructed with environmental issues at top of mind.

The design of the development provided for an abundance of green spaces with lots of trees, shrubs and plants included to provide for a more natural environment and to help offset the effects of greenhouse gas emissions. Building designs include environmentally friendly features including highly efficient low E glass, canopies over windows to reduce cooling requirements, the use of natural gas by all retailers and computer controls on building heating and ventilation systems units and parking area lighting to reduce after hours energy consumption.

Retail stores at East Point Shopping participate in recycling programs and all waste storage bins are completely enclosed.

East Point Shopping was recognized for its environmental and community awareness by the City of Saint John with the 2007 Blooming Spirit Award.

The East Point Shopping site includes a unique subterranean storm water retention basin. Constructed beneath the parking area, this huge under ground basin controls the run off of rainwater from the property. The basin is designed to collect rainwater falling on the site and is equipped with a flow control manhole to slowly release this accumulated rainwater into the Marsh Creek drainage area. This basin retention system represents a significant investment to ensure that the surrounding environment benefits from a large reduction in the rate of rainwater flowing off of the development site compared to the original green field site.
